Creative Portrait Photography in Brighton with Acoustic Wedding Singer Sofie

Last Summer, I had the pleasure of doing a wonderful portrait session with Sofie, an incredibly talented acoustic wedding singer hailing from Brighton! She was after some professional, creative portraits to showcase her brand new website, Sofie Aimee Music, which is entirely focused on providing music for weddings and events.

One specific request she had for this shoot was to recreate an authentic wedding setup. We had a great conversation over the phone, discussing various possible locations, and ultimately decided on the Brighton Beach Bandstand as our chosen spot! It was the perfect backdrop to capture that enchanting wedding vibe in her photos, while also incorporating a touch of Brighton’s charm, as Sofie is keen on promoting herself as a Brighton-based wedding and event singer.

About the shoot

We chose a remarkably hot day back in June for our photography session (while I’m writing this, I find myself bundled up in three layers of clothing as it’s currently a freezing cold day in December, making it quite difficult to recall those warmer, sun-filled days).

We met early in the morning to avoid the crowds that often gather on Brighton Beach on a hot Summer day, and we kicked off our shoot with some creatively styled portraits. When we refer to “creative portraits” in the realm of brand photography, we are talking about a collection of images that utilize intriguing techniques to produce a final result that goes beyond just a single frame.

Creative portraits serve as an excellent tool in brand photography to vividly showcase a person's unique personality alongside their business. During my session with Sofie we captured her creative business portraits using a vibrant prop; Sofie brought along one of her sparkly microphones to the shoot, allowing us to seamlessly incorporate her wedding and event singing into her photos.

All of Sofie’s portraits were taken around the iconic Brighton Beach Bandstand, there were a couple of outfit changes for a varied look and Sofie also took the opportunity to do some actual singing during the shoot, wonderfully recreating that festive wedding atmosphere.
